VALDOSTA – Valdosta State University will celebrate the work of 12 graduates from the Department of Art & Design when they showcase “12 Métier” at the Dedo Maranville Fine Arts Gallery from November 14th to December 6th. Entry to the gallery is free and open to the public.
On Sunday, November 14th, from 1pm to 3pm, there will be an opening reception for “12 Métier”, the autumn seniors exhibition 2021. Visitors have the opportunity to meet the artists and discuss their works.
“12 Métier” includes photography, printmaking, illustration, painting, ceramics, digital media and mixed media works by Rebecca Bradley, Jason Cajigas, Kelley Gray, Marissa E. Hanson, Joseph Mays, Makevia Moore, Taylor Nalley, Shade Royer, Ramiro Santillan, Sarah Sims, Victoria Shuman and Erica Thrift. All students are arts majors expecting to graduate with either a Bachelor of Fine Arts or a Bachelor of Arts in December.
This is the first class of seniors from the Department of Art & Design to exhibit their work in the on-campus gallery since the global pandemic began in early 2020.
“The students present individual work packages based on the skills, interests and inspirations they have developed during their VSU trip,” announced the organizers. “In order to discover themselves through artistic expression, they experimented with different media until they found their strength and inspired their title ’12 Métier ‘. Métier is a French word that is defined as an area in which to excel. “
The Dedo Maranville Fine Arts Gallery is located on the first floor of the VSU Fine Arts Building at the intersection of Oak Street and Brookwood Drive. It is open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Fridays from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
