Two new exhibitions are set to open at the Cultural Arts Center in Glen Allen

GLEN ALLEN, Va. (WRIC) – Two new exhibits will open at the Cultural Arts Center in Glen Allenand art lovers can immerse themselves in the masterpieces during Thursday night’s Art Night.

“It’s our gallery opening night,” Lauren Hall, visual arts manager at the Cultural Arts Center, told 8News.

“We have two exhibitions that we will be showing, ‘Opening Minds Through Art’ at our Gumenick Gallery and ‘Untethered’ at the Slantwall Gallery.”

Untethered features a collection of bird images by Virginia artist Amy Paquette.

“Amy lived in the city of New York and Los Angeles for about 15 years, and when she moved to Virginia, she reconnected with nature and especially birds,” Hall said. “So all of her art revolves around the birds that she photographs when she goes for a walk.”

Opening Minds Through Art features work by adults with dementia who can get creative with a brush.

“You create artwork one-to-one with a volunteer,” Hall explained. “It’s just a fun time for her to use her imagination and have fun and paint and there’s a lot of color and glitter in all of her colorful artwork.”

The art night takes place on Thursday, November 17 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Admission is free. On this evening, visitors can enjoy live music, drinks for sale and have the opportunity to meet the artists behind the works. All proceeds go to outreach programs at the Cultural Arts Center.

According to Hall, the center also has vacation plans in store.

“On December 3, we have our big tree lighting event,” she said. “This fits with our tree display – different themed Christmas trees in the lobby.”
