Tango competition in Bali 04.-07. Aug 2022
Bali was selected by the International Festival Industry Coordinator for Buenos Aires for the Ministry of Arts and Culture of the Government of Buenos Aires to act as a host for the First Indonesian Preliminary Tango Dance Championships will take place from August 4th to 7th, 2022.
The upcoming event reflects the growing popularity of tango dancing in several areas of Asia-Pacific and Southeast Asia. As a result, tango dance enthusiasts are clamoring for opportunities to study and practice this South American dance form.
As reported by Beritabali.com, Tango enthusiasts across the region have an almost insatiable desire to learn under the tutelage of tango maestros in order to hone their skills and compete successfully in regional and international dance competitions.
The chairman of Interim Indonesian Championship (ICP), Ratih Soe Sosasie says the Indonesian dance event is much more than a mere tango competition; but also an opportunity for dancers to improve their skills by attending master classes and seminars.
The event also provides an opportunity for cultural exchange and the presentation of Balinese dance performances during the gala dinner.
Tiara Djosodirdjo, member of the local organizing committee, explained that the 4-day competition would welcome participants from Australia, Brunei Darussalam, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. The competition includes formal and informal tango genres and three categories for dancers aged 50+.
The August 4-7 competition is the first time that Indonesia will host preliminary rounds for the global competition.
A group of Argentines will act as judges in Bali master and master of tango: Gabriel Ponce, Analia Morales, Elina Roldan and Jorge Torres. Martin Frosio from will act as an observer at the event Festivals Industry for Buenos Aires for the Ministry of Arts and Culture for the Government.
The Bali competition is supported by the Embassy of Argentina in Indonesia, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Tatler Indonesiaand Jakarta Tango Lovers. In addition to competitive matches, the organizers will conduct private master classes and seminars.
