Pokemon fan animation features Klawf in black and white art style

Klawf, a new crab-like Pokémon appearing in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, is getting a Pokémon Black and White-inspired makeover in a fan animation.

A player was looking forward to the start of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet made an animation showing the rock guy Klawf in the art style of the older games, Pokemon black and white. Klawf is one of the new Pokémon in Gen 9, and as the name suggests, it has a design that resembles a crab. While the gaming community awaits the release of Pokemon Scarlet and Violetthis new animation shows that some of these new pocket monsters also look surprisingly good in the franchise’s older art styles.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Posted on Reddit by a user named BobblaKei, this animation featuring Klawf managed to capture the unique look of this new Pokemon. According to the Reddit user, they wanted to make a video that “kinda/sorta” reimagines the Pokemon Pokemon black and white art style, and the end result was nothing short of impressive.

In the clip shared by BobblaKei, Klawf was placed in front of a turquoise background and faced ahead. Although the animation was short, it conveyed the idea that the pocket monster was alive; it was moving up and down slightly, indicating it was breathing. Also, the Reddit user managed to convert the 3D design from Klawf Pokemon Scarlet and Violet remarkably well to a 2D appearance. Some highlights of the Pokémon’s design were the crab-like Pokémon’s protruding eyes, which allow it to see in all directions, and it even had clumps of a fur-like substance sprouting up around the joints in its legs, claws, and over its mouth.

Pokemon black and white are part of Gen 5 and were released on the Nintendo DS over a decade ago. With that in mind, it’s understandable that some users on Reddit felt nostalgia for this latest fan art featuring Klawf. The post shared by BobblaKei has already garnered several hundred positive votes, and fans have praised the artist’s work. For example, one user commented that he liked the new pixel art look of the artwork. Also, another player said it reminded them of the sprites from the Mario and Luigi Games on the Nintendo DS.

While this detailed animation of Klawf is impressive, it’s not the only fan art showcasing this upcoming Pokemon. One player even opted for a shiny version of Klawf, envisioning it with a grayish shell instead of an orange one. It will be interesting to see what other fan art around the web is themed on this Pokemon in the days leading up to release Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will be released on November 18th for Nintendo Switch.
