Niles native Mary Zicafoose returns for a fiber art exhibition and lecture

NILE – The Niles Public Art Commission Presents “An Evening With Maria Zicafoose: Ikat Tapestry Artist” from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on August 17 at Grand LV, 104 N. 3rd St.

The event includes a special exhibition tour, artist presentation, hors d’oeuvres and launch.

Zicafoose, a native of Niles and now based in Nebraska, will present a talk about her career as an artist and show examples of her work.

Her tapestries and carpets span the world, from large public installations to the private collections of United States embassies on three continents. Her woven pieces fuse cultural icons and symbols with contemporary hand, creating visual statements out of fibers.

A 1969 graduate of Niles High School and the daughter of Walter “Whitie” and Anne (Hradel) Brelowski, Zicafoose received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Saint Mary’s College and completed art studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Nebraska .

The Niles Public Art Commission presents An Evening with Mary Zicafoose: Ikat Tapestry Artist on August 17, 2022 at the Grand LV.  She now lives in Nebraska, is from Niles and graduated from Saint Mary's College.

She is Co-Director Emeritus of the American Tapestry Alliance and has served on the board of GoodWeave, an international NGO dedicated to eliminating child labor in Southeast Asian carpet factories.

The exhibition of her work – seven large tapestries and three framed prints – remains on view at the Grand LV on August 18 from 12pm to 2pm and 4pm to 8pm. Admission on August 18 is free, but donations will be accepted.
