- McPhy is continuing its transition to industrial scale with a new hydrogen tank manufacturing facility in the heart of the Grenoble region, which will be operational from March 2022
- By increasing its production capacity to 150 stations per year, McPhy offers a strategic answer to the future of the hydrogen mobility market
- By bringing together research and innovation, engineering, production and support functions in a single location, significant operational and industrial synergies are expected, which enables optimization of project execution times and better service for customers
- This project will result in the creation of over 100 new jobs in the Isère region once full performance is achieved
La Motte-Fanjas, June 22nd, 2021 – 7:30 a.m. CEST – McPhy (Euronext Paris: MCPHY – ISIN: FR0011742329), specializing in carbon-free hydrogen generation and distribution equipment (electrolysers and hydrogen refueling stations), today announced that it has a new industrial base for the development and mass production of hydrogen refueling stations. This new factory, which will be operational from March 2022, will bring together the research and innovation, engineering and production activities and support functions currently based in La Motte-Fanjas and Grenoble. From 2022, the factory will multiply the production of McPhy’s hydrogen filling stations Capacity from 20 to 150 units per year sevenfold and create over 100 direct jobs at full capacity in the greater Grenoble area. This gives the group a particularly efficient platform for the fluidization of its industrial and logistical tools, which optimizes project implementation times and service for its customers.
Laurent Carme, CEO of McPhy, Conditions: “This new industrial site marks an important milestone in the history of McPhy and in our transition to industrial scale. McPhy has all the technological and industrial resources to serve a rapidly growing hydrogen mobility market. This project will lead to the creation of over 100 jobs in the Grenoble region in the long term. I would like to thank the McPhy teams for their daily dedication to making this project a great success. I would also like to thank all the services of the French state and the local authorities, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and the Grenoble-Alpes metropolis for their support in this energy transition project and the re-industrialization of the areas. “
Antoine Ressicaud, Chief Manufacturing & Procurement Officer: âFrom March 2022 we will have a state-of-the-art production tool in order to offer our customers better service. This industrial setup will enable us to sevenfold our production capacities of hydrogen stations and to strengthen our technological leadership in plants for the production and distribution of green hydrogen. From an economic point of view, our ramp-up and the volume effect will lead to significant competitive gains. “
Synergies and bundling of competencies
In March 2022, McPhy will move into the heart of Grenoble and a 4,000 m² building2 existing industrial building. The teams currently spread across the La Motte-Fanjas and Grenoble locations will be brought together there, which increases the efficiency of the implementation of projects, promotes the exchange of knowledge through the creation of synergies between teams and skills, and more Improve customer service with reduced lead times. The area of ââthe new offices and their location in an urban area that can be reached by public transport facilitate the onboarding of new employees the goal of over 100. to recruit Staff until the site is running at full capacity.
Annual production Capacity increase from 20 to 150 stations per year from 2022
The factory is expected to gradually ramp up production by one annual production capacity of 150 stations from 2022. This increase in volume, when McPhy has already delivered 35 stations or is in the process of being delivered, becomes clear lower manufacturing costs while ensuring optimal Delivery times. At the same time, the group is implementing a new, integrated test platform and sophisticated, lean manufacturing processes based on digital manufacturing tools with the aim of Series production of its new filling station program for refueling vehicles of all kinds: light vehicles, buses, trucks or trains.
This increase in productivity and capacity is a reaction to the densification of the hydrogen mobility market, a consequence of the central role of hydrogen in the decarbonisation process of transport.
A location in the heart of the European ecosystem
With the takeover of this industrial site, McPhy strengthens its position in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, a pioneering region in the development of hydrogen. Thanks to its strategic location in the heart of the Grenoble ecosystem, one of the most dynamic in Europe, the new McPhy factory will contribute to the Group’s international reputation. The optimal location in terms of logistics flow management gives the group the Capacity to serve the entire European market.
