Charlevoix Circle of Arts opens photo exhibition

CHARLEVOIX – The Charlevoix Circle of Arts is hosting the 13th Juried Annual Exhibition of Charlevoix Photography Club, Pure Northern Michigan June 3-18.

The exhibition will open on Friday 3 June with an opening reception from 5pm to 7pm with light refreshments and awards ceremony. Members of the Circle of Arts, members of the Charlevoix Photography Club and the public are invited to participate.

As part of the Pure Northern Michigan theme, the exhibit will feature photographic images captured in Northern Michigan and related to the following categories: wildlife, people, artistic expression, landscape and macro. Also new this year are images in the Non-Michigan Travel category.

Cash prizes will be awarded for the first, second and third photos in each of the six categories. All photographs featured in the exhibition are available for sale, and a commemorative poster featuring a photograph of John Doskoch is also available for purchase.

All submissions will be judged in the gallery by Steve Jessmore, a 30-year-old photojournalist, five-time Michigan Photographer of the Year, Robert F. Kennedy Award winner for photojournalism, and former Chief Photographer for the Flint Journal, Saginaw News and Myrtle while in the gallery hanging beach (SC) Sun News. Submissions for the juried exhibition are open to all current members of the Charlevoix Photography Club and anyone else who wishes to participate (excluding professional photographers).

The public is encouraged to stop by and see the Pure Northern Michigan Photo Exhibit, made possible through the sponsorship of Charlevoix Auto, a local new and used car dealership featuring Chevrolet, Jeep, Ram, Dodge, Chrysler and Moke America.

The Charlevoix Circle of Arts is open Monday through Saturday and is located at 109 Clinton Street in downtown Charlevoix. For more information about the exhibition or the Charlevoix Circle of Arts, please call (231) 547-3554 or visit their website at www.charlevoixcircle.org.
