Art association in Mallorca

On Saturday 29th January members and guests enjoyed the annual Arts Society Mallorca Exhibition at Son Muntaner Golf.

Once again the quality of work was very high and Chair Tim had difficulty selecting the winners for the two awards: one for the adults and one for the students.

Tim finally chose Sheona Smith from the main exhibition and Connor Iggulden from the students at King Richard III College.

Not only was the level of art exemplary, the atmosphere and presentation of the event were also excellent.

Congratulations to the society committee who worked very hard to pull it off.

A wine story

Coming up on the evening of February 8th at 7.30pm at Son Muntaner Golf you can join a great evening dedicated to wine. Wine has been part of our global society for over 7,000 years and history tells of its origin and appearance in all societies throughout the Mediterranean and across Europe. There is ample evidence of the role wine played in these societies and how it became an important part of belief, well-being and celebration. Drawings, paintings, engravings, buildings, pottery, and wine labels themselves all contribute to the story.

The evening will be moderated by David Wright who has been a wine dealer, importer and distributor for 30 years. Over the past three decades he has honed an intriguing evening entitled A Brief History of Wine which, if you like a drop or are simply culturally and historically interested, is a great subject to spend an evening learning more about to experience. As is usual with any Arts Society event, wine and other beverages will be served after the talk, so you’ll have a chance to educate yourself about your drink before enjoying it! You can contact them via email for tickets.

The students at Richard III School in Portals have done an excellent job.

Upcoming Arts Society events include: Tuesday 8th March The History and Material Culture of Moorish Spain, Tuesday 10th May Cèzanne & Van Gogh’s Deaths as a Career Step, Tuesday 14th June.

network baby

In case you didn’t already know, Mallorca is a place where your reputation and the people you know and know will go a long way in helping you and any business or venture you have in mind to succeed. There are a few options you can try if you want to network and meet business people, including some that cost quite a bit of money or have specific membership criteria. I used to be a member of LACE back on the day, which was a women-only business networking group, and I’ve met a lot of nice women through that group, I was recently invited to speak at a Women in Business network event on February 24th, and on The following day I am invited to attend an open business lunch for anyone who wishes to attend (male or female).

Happy art lovers in the exhibition.

Both events should be fun, reasonably affordable, and still valuable. I will let you know more about this when I have more information or you can email me at PS The Arts Society events are another great opportunity to meet people.

Guests wanted!

Speaking of podcasts, Oliver and I are always looking for interview partners. So if you have an interesting story about your life in Mallorca then please email me and let me know who you are.
